General Paper Description
:
Using the
secondary and primary
sources
list
below,
and any other sources I may give you,
write a short paper (four to six pages, properly formatted
according to the guidelines below) making an argu

mportance of McCarthyism
and the treatment of the Hollywood Ten.
Your assignment is to make a historical
argument
that addresses
the following questions: Was McCarthyism an aberration or part of a larger and ongoing force in U.S.
society? Why did so few people challenge McCarthy, HUAC, and other organizations involved in the
anti
-
Communist investigations? Why were the film and other entertainment industries investigated so
intensively?
Remember, your assignment is not to answer th
ese questions in order, but to craft a thesis
and build a paper around that thesis.

This is not an independent research paper. You are not to use any s
ources other than the
secondary and
primary sources listed below

them to me for my approval.
If you use sources other than these without my approval, you will earn a zero

*Your paper must be no fewer than
four
pages and no more than
six
pages, not including endnotes,
or the
title page (which should include your name, the date, and your seat number)

when properly formatted. To
be properly formatted, papers must be double

to change that).
You should have a title.
Do not add space between paragraphs or add length to the paper
by increasing the size of the margins, etc. You will be graded down for failing to use the correct format.
