For this report, not all sources will come from books, magazines or websites; some may actually
come from personal or telephone interviews, emails, information from experts in the field, or other

Requirements:
Before you begin Report 5, you must send an email to your instructor explaining the
specific and narrowed topic you have chosen (EX: organic farming in an urban
environment).
o Your topic must be approved before you begin writing.
o Your email must be of professional quality. If you are asked to revise your email,
you may lose points on the assignment.
N O T E: The email must be sent by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20th or the report grade
will be reduced by ten (10) points.
Audience analysis is key. You are writing to executives with little to no technical
experience. Tailor your report to meet their needs.
Your report must be objective. In other words, you are supplying the readers with facts
only. Your educated opinion will go in the Recommendations section.
Focus on advantages and disadvantages associated with the particular technology you
choose. Follow model 9.1 in Chapter 9. If appropriate, create a chart to illustrate these
points.
Give special attention to bolding, capitalization, side headings, paragraph indentions,
margins, page numbers, and placement of titles of tables and figures, etc. Be consistent.
The report must be a minimum of 10 pages and no more than 12. This includes everything.
It must be single spaced or use space and a half (no double-spaced reports). Remember that
the cover letter must be single spaced but double spaced between separate paragraphs or
parts.
The report must utilize a minimum of two sources (this does not include any visuals).
o Wikipedia is not an acceptable source.
o Utilize the databases through the library.
The report must appropriately use at least two visuals/graphics.
D O NO T PL A GI A RI Z E.
o Because documentation and correctly utilizing sources is covered extensively in
ENGL 1010, a pre-requisite for this course, you are expected to demonstrate those
skills in order to maintain academic integrity. Please review the reading assignments
and email the instructor immediately if you have questions.
o Review the Using Sources document, utilize the tutors at the Andrews Writing
Center (located in the IMC building), and ask any questions you have about correct
documentation.
o It is your responsibility to submit your report early enough to review the
O riginality Report in the Report Five Dropbox folder. If your report calculates
more than 25%, your report receives an automatic zero.
