Independence

You will read a NON-fiction book, dealing with a topic that pertains to the time-frame of the period we will be learning about in class (no books covering 20th century America acceptable). NO NOVELS OR FICTIONAL WORKS OF ANY KIND ACCEPTABLE. In addition, do not use a book that is a collection of primary source documents (Something similar to your “For The Record: book). You will write a minimum 6-8 page review essay of this book due on the last day of class that will attempt to emulate the style of a professional book review like you would see in a newspaper or scholarly journal. It will not be enough to simply summarize the book’s contents. You must also try to analyze what the point of the book is, and if the author does an effective job or not in presenting his or her argument in the book.
