write an essay in which you explicate it. In your explication, you should tell what we can infer about the speaker and the internal audience (if one is present), explain the situation that you infer from the poem, and discuss the imagery, language, and poetic devices which the poet uses to convey the thoughts and feeling of the poem to you. Because an explication is an essay, you should use essay form; be sure to formulate a topic sentence (which might tell generally what you think is going on in the poem), and use the topic sentence to give unity and coherence to your essay. Write in complete sentences organized into clear and coherent paragraphs. Although I would much prefer that you interpret and analyze the sonnet on your own, if you do use any outside help, do not forget to acknowledge it specifically and identify it correctly.
